Al Fattaah

Fataḥa is to open, and in older Arabic also to judge between two parties — to open what has closed between them. The same root gives fatḥ, a victory, and miftāḥ, a key; opening is the one idea underneath all three.

The single ayah carrying this form does both jobs at once: our Lord will gather us and then open between us in truth — and it closes al-Fattāḥ al-ʿAlīm, the one who opens and the one who knows. A door that will not open is not always a door being refused. Sometimes it is a judgement that has not been given yet.
