Al Muta’ali

The root of al-ʿAliyy, in the shape that means rising above of itself — high, and beyond comparing. Taʿālā, from the same letters, is what the Qur’an says when it puts Allah above whatever has just been attributed to Him.

This written form is not in the Qur’anic text, but it comes very close: one ayah closes on al-Kabīr al-Mutaʿāl, spelled without the final letter the list gives the name. Height described this way is not a position in a ranking, because nothing else is on the scale.
