Al Ghaniyy

Ghinā is wealth, but the centre of the root is not having plenty — it is not needing. From it come aghnā, to make somebody need less, and the everyday word for being comfortably off.

Five of the eight ayat carrying this written form put al-Ḥamīd straight after it, and the sentences around them are almost always about us rather than about Him: you are the ones in need, He is the one who is not. Whoever turns away, it says, Allah is the one without need of them. Praise offered to someone who needs none of it is the only praise that is entirely a gift.
