Reflection

Majd again, from the same three letters as al-Majīd, in a different shape — greatness that gives rather than greatness that merely stands over you. The lexicons keep honour and open-handedness in one word here, and will not let the first be read without the second.

This form is not in the Qur’anic text; the list keeps both names, seventeen places apart, built from the same three letters. Some meanings were evidently too large to name once. It happens several times in these ninety-nine: two shapes of one root, set far apart, as though the list wanted you to come across the idea twice and not notice the first time.
