Al Waahid

Waḥda is oneness — being one, and being alone; the root gives waḥīd, solitary, and the plain numeral you would use to count anything at all. It is an ordinary word doing extraordinary work.

In every one of the six ayat carrying this written form al-Qahhār follows it — the One, the Overpowering, six times without exception, across six different surahs, and each time as the last words of the ayah. Nowhere in the Book is this name left standing by itself. Oneness in this root is not a number. It is having no second.
