Al-Qādir’s three letters again, in the shape that presses harder on them — power taken hold of rather than merely possessed. Arabic can make a second name out of a first simply by tightening the pattern.

The definite name is not written in the Qur’an, though the word appears there twice without its article, both times in Sūrat al-Qamar and both times as the last word of an ayah. Two of the ninety-nine drawn from one root is not unusual in this list; several roots are named twice. This pair is simply the plainest case of one idea said at two strengths.
