Naqama is to find a thing blameworthy and to answer it — the root is about a response to wrong rather than about temper.
This form is not in the Qur’anic text; the name is held by the list, and the Qur’an says the act as a verb instead. Its sharpest use is a sentence turned around: the only thing held against those people, it says, was that they believed. Justice that is not yours to carry out is one weight you are allowed to put down.
