Al Jabbaar

Jabara is to set a broken bone — strength applied to what cannot mend itself — and out of the very same letters comes jabbār, the tyrant who compels. The Qur’an uses the second sense of people: the jabbārīn whom Mūsā’s people were afraid to face carry exactly this word.

Said of Allah the written form appears once, in Sūrat al-Ḥashr, standing between al-ʿAzīz and al-Mutakabbir. English usually keeps the compelling and lets the mending go, which is a loss, because both are in the letters. Force and repair are closer relatives than we tend to allow.
